Our Story

Nestled in 40 acres of natural beauty, Millpark House offers warm hospitality in a picturesque setting for a relaxing getaway.

Millpark House was built in the 1750’s by the Vaughan family as part of the Golden Grove Estate, and nestles in dramatic and beautiful country side carved out by the last ice age as it retreated from this part of Ireland some 15,000 years ago. The surrounding countryside has been important in Celtic history and tradition for the last 3,000 years and includes the revered Knockhnamaise (Hill Of the feast) little over a mile from the house where you can walk a see the foundations of the first house built on the estate that was in the same style as Millpark but slightly larger. Millpark was enlarged in the 1830’s and box lined pathways were added to the wood. As a listed building Millpark has been undergoing careful restoration in recent years, maintaining all its originality allowing visitors to experience the grace of a bygone age along with the comforts of the modern world. Founded with a vision of sharing our cherished historic home with guests seeking a tranquil retreat.

Sometimes Airbnb throws up a wonderful experience and my stay at Sorrels was no exception. From the minute you are greeted at the door you are made to feel at ease and very welcome.
Had a lovely evening of chatting with Sorrel and was even treated to a lovely red wine which was much appreciated after a long journey.
I loved the house and it’s back story and learning all of its history and the effort and love going into restoring it, just added to the stay. I would be really happy to stay here again and would recommend to all.

Sorrel and Henry were great hosts, they made us feel very welcome on our arrival. We had a very spacious comfortable room, in the quiet peaceful surroundings of the Millpark House, with the little extra of the use of their sitting room to relax and making us feel at home. Breakfast was splendid, great selection of breads, ham cheese and fruits with Sorrel offering to supply us with anything else we wanted. This splendid breakfast set us up for the day ahead. Sorrel gave us lots of information on places to visit in the locality.

What a fantastic place! The house is unbelievably charming, clean and the premises are vast, beautiful and very well maintained. Sorrel takes such good care of her guests and is very considerate. There is plenty of interesting things to do in the area as well (I recommend cycling to Leap Castle, the world’s most haunted castle) and I was even invited to an amazing dinner party. I had a great time.
